One has thus shown that all 118 links listed on the table of links, are in fact distinct from each other. This, however, does not imply that they necessarily "deserve" a place on this list. One needs also to show that none of them is trivial, or an unlinked union or connected sum (or unlinked union of connected sums) of other links. We shall demonstrate this fact in the following page.
